Cryring BPM

Beam Position Monitor for the Cryring accelerator at GSI. The term Trajectory Measurement System (TMS) is also common for this system and is used as a synonym for BPM.
The BPM measures the horizontal and vertical beam positions at nine places of the accelerator ring.

Gateware

The gateware (= FPGA firmware) for the Xilinx Artix 7 FPGAs on the AMC boards.
There had been a previous implementation by Piotr Miedzik, but since virtually no documentation could be found, it was decided to re-implement the gateware.

New Implementation

The gateware sources can be found in the following git repository: Cryring BPM Gateware

The corresponding documentation can be found here: Cryring BPM Gateware Documentation

The same documentation can be found here as a PDF: Cryring_BPM_Gateware_Documentation.pdf

Original Implementation

The original Code by Piotr Miedzik can be found here: Old Cryring BPM Gateware
It is compilable, but there is no guarantee for completeness and it is not clear if it is the latest version.

MCH configuration

GSI network does not allow more than one MAC address connected per switch port.
MCH must:

  • be connected to GSI netwrok over FRT_1 port
  • have Port Based VLAN option enabled
  • all ports blocked from FRT_1 except CPU1
  • CPU1 enabled to UPDB and FRT_1
