Although BIF-monitors are already in use at the UNILAC, we are still working on systematic improvements and specific designs within the scope of the FAIR-project. Excited gas particles move away from the crucial position of excitation due to gas dynamics and emit fluorescence photons after their mean lifetime. Therefore the BIF-monitor's spatial and temporal resolution is systematically limited.
