====== Digitzer modules ======

Purpose of the digitzer modules shown in the picture below is to convert the analog current signals received from the BCTs into a proportional pulse frequency. By counting the derived digital pulses an integral value is calculated in between a measurement gate called "Rahmenpuls". A precisly timed measurement is of only possible if the gate pulses are applied synchroneously to the beam signal, which is assured by application of an internal delay of each gate signal with respect to the beam's time of flight and the location of the individual BCT, respectively.

The primordial purpose of the MAPS-system was to display the correct timing of the gate pulses, enabling the adjustment of the cgate and beam pulse's congruence.

Das <color /#CCFFAA>grün hervorgehobene Signal ist das eingehende Rahmenpulssignal</color> als eines von acht möglichen im UNILAC-Bereich. Es wird dem CPLD zugeführt. Dort können Laufzeitverzögerungen programmiert werden, sollte das notwendig sein, wenn Entfernungen eine individuelle Anpassung pro Trafostandort bedingen.
Der <color /#99FF99> verzögererte Rahmenpuls wird als Signal "#2"</color> aus dem CPLD ausgeben und über zwei Buffer dann stark grün auch aus dem Digitizer heraus an VG1.Pin14 in den Verdrahtungsrückraum des Trafo-Crates geführt. Auf diesem Weg wird es auch auf zwei zweipolige LEMO-Buchsen der Größe "0S" auf der Craterückseite geführt und könnte so benutzt werden. Allerdings scheint keine dieser Ausgabebuchsen benutzt zu sein: die Ports auf dem Foto sind unbenutzt.... \\ 
** Somit reichen offensichtlich auch für das Timing der Verlustüberwachung die eingehenden gröberen Zeitscheiben/Zeitzonen aus:** wenn z.B. ein Standardstrahlpuls deutlich größer 100 µs lang ist, dann macht eine individuelle Verschiebung um wenige µs wohl keinen Unterschied, da in der Verlustüberwachung kein Stromwert aus I = nQ/Δt bestimmt wird, sondern nur eine Differenz in reinen Pulszahlen. Denn die Digitizer der Pulsüberwachung summieren nur Pulse immer zweier aufeinander folgenden Trafos der Art, dass die Pulse von denen des Ersten abgezogen werden. Für diese Differenz ist die Schärfe der Zeitscheibe weniger relevant.\\ **Genauer dürfen die verzögerten Rahmenpulsen gar nicht benutzt werden, denn wenn beide individuell verschieden für ihren Trafo sind, dann ist keines allein richtig für Modul wo beide gemeinsam aber invers gezählt werden!**

Here 2 digitizer channels are shown. 
The cable with D-Sub connector passes the signals from the front end of the BCT electronics. A BNC jack for the analogue signal is provided at the front panel, as well as a Lemo jack for the delayed gate pulse. Both signals are also available on similar connectors on the crate's back panel. These are connected with the MAPS adapter.
