To access Elma Vme Crates via RS232, the following has to be done:
- disable SOL (serial over lan) via telnet. (command: “sol off”)
- connect serial cable to crate
- start Tera Term (baud rate is currently set to 19200)
- switch off the crate via the main switch
- switch it on
→ You will see the bootloader messages and will be able to log in
The telnet part requires a matching Baudrate between the Elma Sysmon (the remote controlled power supply) and the boot environment. To set the Baud rate for the boot console, edit the PXEboot configuration at:
asl720:/common/usr/tftpboot/fesa/L865/pxelinux.cfg/<configfile eg A20>
To set the Baud rate for the real console after booting, edit the inittab production within the build routine for the initramdisk at /acc/sys/L865/adm/2.6.24/build_rt27
This is the manual provided by ELMA:
The Sysmon 3G supports the Serial Over Lan operation mode. In this mode the data received on the serial port is transferred to a telnet connection and the data received from the telnet connection is transmitted to the serial port. The purpose of this is to remotely open a console on a CPU via the system monitor. This allows to see from distance how the CPU boots-up and send some commands to the CPU if needed. For this the CPU must have a serial console enabled and it should be connected to the system monitor board serial port.
SOL Enable
To enalble the SOL mode the steps bellow should be followed:
1. Log on as admin and type the commands:
%>sol on
%>saveenv
This will disable the the bootloader and the system monitor software to print any data on the serial interface.
2. Connect the serial cable to the CPU and restart the system monitor board
3. Open a telnet connection and login as serial:
login: serial
password: SERIAL (default)
4. For security purpose only one „serial” telnet connection is allowed at a time. In order to read the parameters monitored by the Sysmon 3G one or more telnet connection should be opened as „admin” or „user” profiles
Magic SysRq Key
A SysRq Key could be sent over the system monitor board, which allows the user to perform various low level commands on a Linux based platform, regardless of the system's state. For this a break sequence should be send over telnet. This will force a break over the serial line. The SysRq function must be enabled also on the CPU.
SOL Disable
To disable the SOL mode the steps bellow should be followed:
1. Open a telnet connection and login as „admin”:
login: admin
password: ADMIN (default)
2. Connect a serial terminal connected to the system monitor serial port and type:
ESC,serial password („SERIAL” by default) and ENTER. After start-up wait at least 3 seconds for the bootloader to expire and the main software to start.
3.
%>sol off
%>saveenv
Upload with xmodem, e.g. with minicom
